The APPlause! Series

Building the arts audiences of tomorrow

Integral to cultural affairs programming at Appalachian is a comprehensive arts education and outreach program that connects university arts resources to a diverse audience of community arts patrons, teachers and learners in the campus community, and in the public, private and home school network across our region.

Every season, thousands of students and teachers from K-12 classrooms across our region attend free and low-cost music, dance, film, and theatre events at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts and other campus venues, as part of their school day.  Students experience everything from high-energy acrobatics and Appalachian music to international dance and literary classics brought to life through theatrical productions.

The performances are part of the APPlause! Series, presented by the Office of Arts and Cultural Programs. The program is committed to providing exposure to world-class arts programming for young audiences, inspiring a love of learning through the arts, and building the arts audiences of tomorrow. As part of their visits to campus, K-12 student groups often remain on campus for university tours, which provide them with valuable exposure to life on a college campus.
